Does affiliates really help to advertise your forum? i don't think so yet.. it does help, but not that much..

Yes, I found them extremely helpful when I had an affiliate box on my forum.

but having an affiliate box will affect your forum images..

They help somewhat if they are big affiliates.

How about topsites?

Affiliates are quite helpful actually.

I didn't think they were at first so I tried them and they totally worked. Not brilliantly though but the exposure is good.

It does cause sometimes when i get bored it just attracts me to vist the site for some reason.

I think so, but it depends on some factors and your forum. It also depends on the situation, if you do it for him as a favor he might come more because you did that.

It usually works well with bigger sites, but those kind of sites will only affiliate with other sites that are big.

Topsites only help if you have a really good forum.
If you don't then the topsite is more likely to get more members from your forum, to theirs.
