I can recommend xat if u don't like the default FM chatbox...
its got multiplayer games, great smilies and a doodle board xD

Hmm I think it is a good idea only if the position of the chat box is on the right place. Where people see it and come to. I would say at the top of the index page. I have it and it works perfect. But of course you lose people to post instead they do chat.

Chatboxes usually get filled with spam and comments, where people put others names.
You should have to be logged in to use it.

i agree that we should have chatboxes, and it doesn't decrease post ratings, chat can be on any topic. chatboxes are nice for me and you can't spam in chat until you have a mod .

you should think about it try visiting some forum development sites .

i know.. now most sites are having chatbox

I don't think you should have a chat box as it'll slow down the forum and it distracts people from posting on the forum.

Yeah. i Agrees with this. As i took my previous forum for a review. And the reviewer say since you are opening a general forum why do you still need a chatbox after all. This is some of the things the reviewer say.

I thought about maybe opening the chatbox only like on certain times of the week where everyone comes online for a "chatting session"...
so that there is always someone around to control it + ppl will not refrain from posting as the chatbox will only be open at that time + everyone will be online so it would add to the fun...

Another downside to a ChatBox is that it would require active moderation. Spammers would easily target it in a heart beat. Maybe if the idea is approve you guys could require a certain amount of posts to view the ChatBox. That way spamming is less likely.

^^^ Yes i got a idea . you need to make a group . As forumotion provides that ''when a member will reach - posts will be automatically in a group" . So make the chatbox embeded in a forum which is only visible to the member in the group .
